Beautiful Color, Wonderful Taste

One of the most beautiful fruits, and one of the most repulsive when you bite into an astringent, unripe Hachiya persimmon.  Beware, the flesh has to be mushy soft and scoopable with a spoon.  Better yet try a really great tasting persimmon without fear .

Aren’t they beautiful?  Firm and squat like a tomato, this is the Fuyu persimmon.  Non-astringent, crunchy, crisp and sweet.  They’ll keep at room temperature for up to three weeks, a glowing bowl of God’s bounty in your kitchen.

Just rinse them and eat them like apples.  Mmmm, good.

The heart-shaped fruit on the left is the risky Hachiya  and on the right the apple-like Fuyu.
